new edition of 'On the TransAlpine Trail' available in a few days

The first edition of our guidebook On the TransAlpine Trail was published 20 years ago: over 26,000 copies later this is now the eighth edition and it is still going strong.

Of course the Christchurch earthquake last month will substantially reduce the number of tourists Christchurch itself gets for at least the rest of this year, but the railway operations were unaffected, and people can still see the magnificent scenery in the rural hinterland including on the TranzAlpine, which was unaffected.  About 70% of the book deals with the railway and the other 30% with the Great Alpine Highway as it was named a few years years ago (the name State Highway 73 remains too).  The book has over 30 great colour photos, plus 3 in b/w and a map.
